User-to-User Dispute Disclaimer
Last updated: 31 May 2026
Detour Global Ltd is a technology platform only. We are not a party to any agreement, meet-up, experience, payment or arrangement made between a Detour Explorer and a Detour Insider. Any dispute, disagreement, complaint, loss, damage, injury or other unforeseen issue arising between users — whether before, during, or after contact through the platform — is a matter strictly between those users.
1. Scope
This disclaimer applies to every interaction between users of the Detour Global platform, including without limitation: in-app chat messages, off-platform communications begun through the platform, in-person meetings, travel, tours, hosted experiences, accommodation, food, transport, introductions, recommendations, gifts, payments, and any joint or solo activity arranged directly between an Explorer and an Insider, or between two or more users in any combination.
2. No mediation, no arbitration, no adjudication
Detour Global does not mediate, arbitrate, adjudicate, investigate, take sides in, settle, or otherwise resolve disputes between users. We may, at our sole discretion and without obligation, suspend or remove an account that violates our Acceptable Use Policy, but doing so is not a finding of fault and does not create any duty to any user.
3. Unforeseen issues — express disclaimer
You expressly agree that Detour Global is not responsible and accepts no liability for any unforeseen issue arising from a user-to-user interaction, including but not limited to:
- Cancellations, no-shows, changes of plan, or failure to deliver a promised experience.
- Misrepresentation, exaggeration, or inaccuracy in profiles, listings, messages or recommendations made by another user.
- Personal injury, illness, allergic reaction, food poisoning, accident or death.
- Theft, loss, damage to property, lost luggage, or loss of money.
- Fraud, scams, extortion, blackmail, harassment, stalking, discrimination or abuse by another user.
- Sexual misconduct, assault, or any unwanted physical contact.
- Disputes over pricing, tips, gifts, expenses, exchange rates, or off-platform payments.
- Disputes over intellectual property, photographs, video, social-media content or stories shared between users.
- Visa, immigration, customs, tax or local-law issues arising from any meeting or trip.
- Force-majeure events affecting a planned meet-up (weather, strikes, political unrest, pandemic, transport failure, etc.).
- Any emotional, reputational, romantic or relational fallout from user-to-user contact.
4. Your responsibility
Each user is solely responsible for: (a) vetting the people they choose to meet; (b) deciding when, where and how to meet; (c) carrying appropriate travel, medical and personal insurance; (d) complying with local law; (e) keeping personal records of any agreements made directly with another user; and (f) reporting criminal conduct to the relevant local authorities. Detour Global is not a substitute for police, embassies, insurers, lawyers, doctors or any other professional service.
5. Acknowledgment by both parties
By messaging another user, paying for a subscription, contacting us, or otherwise using the platform, both Detour Explorers and Detour Insiders separately and together acknowledge and agree to the terms of this disclaimer, the User Liability Waiver & Assumption of Risk, the Terms & Conditions, the Acceptable Use Policy and the Trust & Safety guidelines.
6. Electronic signature
Where Detour Global asks you to provide an electronic signature (typed name, drawn signature, or click-through confirmation) in relation to this disclaimer, that signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature under the Electronic Communications Act 2000 (UK), the eIDAS Regulation, and the U.S. Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-SIGN). We record the signed name, the date and time of signing, the document version, your IP address and your user-agent string for evidentiary purposes.
7. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Detour Global, its directors, employees, agents and contractors from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to any dispute, claim or unforeseen issue between you and any other user of the platform.
8. Governing law & jurisdiction
This disclaimer is governed by the laws of England & Wales. The courts of England & Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any matter arising from it, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
